Basic description
Foot reflexology is a technique that balances reflex changes (qi energy) in the body. When massaging the reflex zones, we can expect a therapeutic response in a certain part of the body, as there is a reflex connection between the nerve endings of the feet and the body organs.
Foot massage has already been practiced by our ancestors in an effort to alleviate pain and relieve discomfort. The earliest mention comes from ancient Egypt and India and it was brought to Japan and China by Buddhist monks. In China, foot massage has a long history and is still popular to this day. The healing effect of reflex foot massage is achieved through sensitive nerve endings, which lead excitation from the surface of the skin to the internal organ or other system in a reflexive way. We thus influence the physical and mental condition of the client.
The massage relieves tension and stiffness and removes the pain in the legs. Blood circulation is increased and the superficial veins are emptied more quickly and lymph flow is promoted. The massage also helps sleep better and relieves overall tension.
